Keki Mistry is Vice Chairman & CEO of India’s Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) – one of India’s largest providers of housing finance.
Much like South Africa, India has traditionally had high levels of poverty and a low rate of home ownership. While the reasons for this differ, both countries are seeing the demand for affordable housing increase, given the steady movement of people to urban areas. India has been innovative in its structure and policy design to improve the affordability of home ownership.
With four decades of experience in the housing finance market, and as the head of HDFC, Mr. Mistry brings a nuanced understanding of opportunities emerging in the affordable housing market amid a global economy indelibly marked by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mr Mistry has played a critical role in the successful transformation of HDFC into one of India's leading financial services conglomerates by facilitating the formation of companies including HDFC Bank Ltd., HDFC Asset Management Company Ltd., HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company Ltd, and HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Ltd.
Mr Mistry is on the Board of Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., and Torrent Power Ltd. He is a Member of the Primary Market Advisory committee constituted by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), and was a Member of the Corporate Governance Committee constituted by SEBI in 2017.
