Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement

This statement sets out the approach of the Coronation Group to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking within our business and across our supply chain. It is published for the benefit of clients, investors and other stakeholders. The Coronation Group is not required to publish a modern slavery statement under applicable legislation, such as the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015. However, we recognise the importance of transparency and accountability in this area. As a responsible asset manager, we are committed to addressing and mitigating modern slavery risks in our business activities and supplier relationships. We therefore publish this statement on a voluntary basis in alignment with our broader commitment to high standards of governance, ethical conduct and responsible investment.

Our business

Coronation is an investment management group headquartered in Cape Town, South Africa, with investment management activities conducted primarily from South Africa and a subsidiary presence in the United Kingdom and Ireland. As an asset manager, our operations are predominantly office-based and our direct supply chains are limited, being largely comprised of professional services, technology providers and other corporate support services.

Policies and governance

Coronation seeks to conduct its business in accordance with applicable laws and with regard to recognised standards of responsible business conduct. Internal policies and governance frameworks promote ethical conduct, compliance with applicable laws and responsible employment practices across our operations. Our governance structures also provide oversight of compliance, risk management and responsible investment matters.

Employees and workplace practices

We are committed to fair and lawful employment practices and comply with labour and employment laws in the jurisdictions in which we operate. Our employment practices are designed to promote fair treatment, non-discrimination and respect for employee rights.

Suppliers and service providers

Coronation engages a range of professional and operational service providers. In selecting and working with such providers, we seek to engage reputable organisations that operate in accordance with applicable laws and responsible business practices. Supplier onboarding and oversight processes are proportionate to the nature of the services provided and include consideration of legal and regulatory risk factors.

Responsible investment

As part of our broader approach to responsible investment, we consider environmental, social and governance factors in our investment processes where relevant and appropriate, which include human rights considerations, such as labour practices, modern slavery and human trafficking. Given our role as asset manager, we do not manage or control the underlying operations of investee companies. We do actively, as part of our fiduciary duties, seek to engage with investee companies, where considered appropriate, on material ESG matters, including human rights-related matters.

Risk assessment and ongoing approach

Given the nature of our business and the jurisdictions in which we primarily operate, we consider the inherent risk of modern slavery within our direct operations to be relatively low. However, we recognise that risks may arise indirectly through extended supply chains and investee companies. We continue to monitor developments in responsible business practices and regulatory expectations relating to modern slavery and human rights and may review our policies and processes from time to time.
